Sowing Seeds of Change: Promoting Conservation Agriculture in Northern Ghana
Climate change continues to challenge farmers across Northern Ghana — but through Peace for Life Ghana’s Conservation Agriculture (CA) program, communities are learning to adapt and thrive.
In 2024 and 2025, PLG trained more than 100 farmers — mostly women — in organic pesticide extraction, compost preparation, and soil conservation methods. A demonstration farm established in Silinga showcases practical techniques such as minimal tillage, crop rotation, and compost use. These eco-friendly practices are increasing yields and improving soil health while reducing production costs.
“It used to be difficult for me, a single mother, to farm even one acre. With PLG’s training and seed support, I cultivated two acres this year. My maize yield improved despite the floods,” – Safia from Wulugu
Through conservation agriculture, PLG is not just teaching new techniques — it’s helping farmers build resilience, protect the environment, and secure food for generations to come.
