Soap-Making Skills That Changed Lives: Empowering Youth and Persons with Disabilities

Empowerment begins when opportunity meets training. In Walewale, Sandangfong, and Gbimsi, Peace for Life Ghana (PLG) trained 25 women and youth in soap and detergent production — a skill that’s now transforming lives.

Participants learned how to make liquid soap, powdered soap, and hard soap. Each trainee received a certificate and a start-up kit to begin production. Within months, fifteen beneficiaries had already started producing and selling their products in local markets, earning income to support their families.

For people with disabilities, this training has been even more life-changing. Many have gained financial independence for the first time, reducing their reliance on the District Assembly’s support fund.

“This is my seventh production since the training. I now earn enough to join a savings group and plan to expand my business soon.” – Dawda Asana from Zangum

The initiative demonstrates how inclusive vocational programs can bridge inequality gaps while promoting dignity and self-sufficiency among vulnerable groups.
