Livelihoods & Financial Inclusion

Exploring our Area of focus

Livelihoods and Financial Inclusion

This intervention focuses on skills development, vocational training, and access to financing through the Village Savings and Loans Association (VSLA) program to address income-generation challenges in rural communities.

Since 2018, over 1,500 women across ten communities have benefited from VSLA programs. Participants receive tool kits, orientation, and regular meetings to settle loans, purchase shares, and gain financial literacy. The program also integrates governance and social issues such as women in leadership, reproductive health, deforestation, and climate change into discussions.

The Empowering Girls in Industrial Trades (EGIT) initiative supports young girls pursuing industry-related programs in Technical Institutions. EGIT provides learning and safety materials for building construction, computer hardware, electrical engineering, plumbing, and gas fitting courses, helping break gender stereotypes and promote economic empowerment.

Vocational skills training in soap production has also improved the livelihoods of persons with disabilities (PWDs), reducing dependency on families and local support funds while promoting social inclusion.

Community Impact: Women & Girls Beneficiaries

Over 1,500 women have gained financial literacy and income-generation skills through VSLA programs. Many now run small businesses, manage loans successfully, and participate in community leadership.

Young girls in industrial trades have received materials and mentoring, allowing them to compete with male peers and pursue career opportunities in construction, engineering, and manufacturing fields.

“Through VSLA and training, I can now save, run my small business, and support my family without depending on others.”
