Farmer Field Schools
Hands-on training for smallholder farmers on conservation agriculture principles and modern techniques.
Through the adoption of conservation agricultural techniques for higher yields, this program component seeks to assist small-holder farmers in achieving food security and to enhance the well-being of vulnerable populations and their earnings.
Peace for Life Ghana is gradually promoting conservation agriculture (CA) methods to increase soil health and yields by regenerating degraded areas and preventing the loss of arable lands. Over 800 farmers have been assisted between 2021 and 2024. The initiative includes Farmer Field Schools, crop rotation, minimal soil tillage, and cover cropping.
We plan to scale up in 2025 with 400 smallholder farmers, providing hands-on training, pre-financing for tractor services and seeds, and collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture. Post-harvest, beneficiaries reinvest part of their yield to expand the program.

Providing seeds and pre-financing for tractor services to help farmers adopt conservation methods.
More than 500 farmers across six locations have implemented CA principles, improving soil health, crop yields, and food security. Communities also experienced increased earnings through efficient farming practices.
Farmer Field Schools provided direct mentoring, enabling farmers to apply modern techniques like crop rotation, cover cropping, and reduced tillage on their farms.
“The training helped us restore our soil and improve yields. We are now confident to feed our families and sell surplus produce.”- Smallholder farmer, North East Region
